Entertainment is something that diverts or engages. Performances, movies, novels and games are examples of activities or things that entertain. Although there are countless entertainment opportunities, individuals with disabilities are sometimes excluded from these activities because accessibility is limited. Below you will find links to connect people with disabilities to entertainment opportunities on the Internet, television, and other forms of media.

 

Disability Films
This site presents a detailed list of 2,500 films that feature characters with a disability. Go to this site if you have an interest in how disabilities are represented on film.

 

InSight Cinema
InSight Cinema is a nonprofit organization that works to bring the big screen, movie-going experience to individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) as well as those who speak English as a second language (ESL) in the U.S.

 

Closed Captions Web
This site provides information on closed captioning law, services, and technology.

 

National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM)
The CPB-WGBH National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) is a research and development facility dedicated to issues of media and information technology for people with disabilities in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities.

2010 Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program

Voucher booklets worth $50.00 available to seniors 60 years of age or older with a household annual income of less than $23,051 for single person or $31,006 for a couple.  Vouchers are redeemable for locally-grown fruits and vegetables at any City & County People’s Open Market vendors certified for this program (from June – October 31, 2010).  For more information click here.

New System for Determining The Handi-Van Eligibility

The City and County of Honolulu has implemented a new application system for determining eligibility for TheHandi-Van, the City’s paratransit service for people with disabilities who are unable to independently use TheBus.
