June 2The Assistive Technology Resource Centers of Hawaii (ATRC), Disability and Communications Access Board (DCAB), DBTAC-Pacific ADA Center, and AARP present: Making Life Accessible Through Technology, Tuesday, June 2, 2009, 9 a.m. 6 p.m., Neal S. Blaisdell Exhibition Hall, Hawaii Suites and Meeting Rooms. All events throughout the day are FREE to the public. Learn about Camp Cool, an interactive computer exploration program for children with disabilities; learn how to make your home more accessible for family members who are elderly or have various impairments and limitations; visit exhibits and attend presentations focusing on assistive technology and other products to enhance and improve the lives of those with disabilities. Take Charge of Your Money3! financial education series begins May 26, 2009, and concludes on August 14, 2009. The television series airs across the state from May 26th to July 2nd at 10:00 a.m. and from July 6th to August 14th at 2:30 p.m. Take Charge of Your Money3! highlights information on important consumer finance topics that everyone should know about.

Saturday, May 9, 2009, 8 a.m. 12 noon, Kaimuki High School Front Campus Loop. Are you an older driver? Do you know an older driver? Trained Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapist Assistants and volunteers take a CarFit participant through a 12-point checklist designed to help older drivers find their best fit in their vehicle. They may also demonstrate and recommend adaptive devices that can help drivers find their best fit. It takes only 20 minutes; youll leave the event with a copy of your checklist and a list of community resources to help you continue driving safely for as long as possible. Sponsored by the State of Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs and the United States Postal Service, Friday, March 6, 2009, King Kalakaua Building Courtyard, 335 Merchant Street, 10:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m. Local, State, and Federal agencies will offer FREE consumer, financial and health information. Consumer organizations will have tips on a wide range of topics, from how to get a free credit report to how to spot a telemarketing scam, how to deal with debt to how to own your own home.
February thru March 2009Living Well with Diabetes: Diabetes Self-Management Program (DSMP)
Fridays from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., February 6, 13, 20, 27, and March 6 and 10, 2009, Leeward Community College, Language Arts Building, LA-228. The Living Well with Diabetes workshop is tailored specifically for people with Type 2 Diabetes or Prediabetes. Workshop participants have been found to lower their HbA1c levels as well as decrease their diabetes related symptoms. It is designed to complement and enhance your medical professionals recommended treatment plans and condition management. It does NOT replace any prescribed treatment. Living Well with Diabetes is a 6-week workshop that shows participants how to take care of themselves and do the things necessary to manage their diabetes and related symptoms. Topics covered include: goal setting, problem setting, planning for sick days, appropriate use of medications, healthy eating, and communicating effectively with family, friends, and your health professionals.
