A special section of Elderly Affairs Division is Information and Assistance, which conducts outreach, particularly to isolated elders, and provides the public with up-to-date information about the range of senior services available on Oahu. Bi-lingual staff evaluate individual needs and link older adults to services whose intent is to enable them to remain independent. This Section:
Maintains walk-in sites islandwide
Conducts door-to-door canvassing in targeted areas
Makes home visits to home-bound elders for individual consultation and referral to appropriate agencies
Provides speakers and exhibits
Produces and distributes a newsletter and educational and resource materials
Assists with completion of forms (TheHandi-Van, disabled parking, property tax exemptions, bus passes, Carrier Alert)
Staffs a telephone hotline to receive calls from the public about senior services
Receives calls to locate convenient tax aide sites.
