Description:
The Public Guardian serves as guardian of incapacitated persons who have no relatives or friends willing and able to serve; assists the Court, as the Court may request or direct, in proceedings for the appointment of a guardian of the person and in the supervision of court-appointed guardians; advises or assists interested persons, corporations or agencies seeking their appointment as guardian of an incapacitated person; provides advice, information and guidance to entities appointed as guardian of the person to assist them in the discharge of their duties; offers guidance and counsel when requested for purposes of encouraging maximum self-reliance and independence and avoids the need for appointment of a guardian or the person; and develops programs of public education on guardianship and alternatives to guardianship of the person.
