Powerful Tools for Caregivers (PTC) is a 6-week evidence based educational program that helps family caregivers THRIVE, not just survive. Participants learn and practice skills that help them to better manage and balance the unique needs of family caregiving. These skills include: - Finding and using community resources - Practicing stress management - Using relaxation techniques - Practicing positive self-care - Setting & reaching goals - Making difficult caregiving decisions - Communicating caregiving needs to family, friends and medical professionals - Managing difficult emotions involved in caregiving - Holding family meetings and much more Programs are held in all areas of Maui County, including Hana, Molokai, Lanai, West Maui, South Maui, Upcountry, and Central Maui. To date, over 300 family caregivers in Maui have participated in this program. Cost is $25 and scholarships are available. Contact the Maui Office of UH Manoa Extension for upcoming dates and times.
Powerful Tools for Caregivers® is provided as a community service through a collaboration between the Kahului UH Extension Office and the Maui County Office on Aging. This class series is accessible for individuals with disabilities.
